Bubble to code

Bubble got you to real users without writing code. When you outgrow it, the move is a rebuild, not an export. This guide covers what comes with you, how to plan the switch and what it costs.

What you can and cannot take out of Bubble

Bubble does not export your application as source code. Workflows, pages and logic live inside Bubble, so moving to custom code means rebuilding them. Anyone who promises a 1 click Bubble to React conversion is selling something you should test carefully first.

Your data does come with you. You can export each data type as CSV from the Data tab, or read it through the Data API if it is enabled. Plan for files and images separately, since those are stored as links to Bubble storage.

The most valuable thing you take is not in any export: every workflow your users actually use, every edge case you already fixed, and the copy that converts. Write that down before the rebuild starts. It becomes the spec.

Signs it is time to leave Bubble

  • Cost that grows faster than revenue. Usage-based pricing on heavy workflows can climb quickly as traffic grows.
  • Performance you cannot tune. Slow searches and page loads on large data sets, with no access to queries or indexes.
  • Enterprise questions you cannot answer. Buyers ask for SOC 2 evidence, data residency or a security review of code you cannot show them.
  • Investors asking about IP. Owning the code is part of the value of the company.
  • AI features that need more control. Evaluation, cost guards and fallbacks are easier to build well in your own backend.

Step by step: Bubble to code

  1. Map every page, workflow, data type and privacy rule in the Bubble app. Mark which ones users actually use.
  2. Design the new data model from the Bubble types, cleaning duplicates and adding real keys and constraints.
  3. Rebuild the workflows that matter first, with tests, while the Bubble app keeps running.
  4. Write export and import scripts for every data type and files, and rehearse the migration on a copy at least twice.
  5. Plan logins. Passwords cannot be moved, so send users a secure set new password link, or use email sign in links.
  6. Freeze changes in Bubble, run the final data move, switch the domain and keep Bubble read only for 30 days.

What a Bubble rebuild costs

  • Stay on Bubble and optimize. Fix slow searches, heavy workflows and privacy rules. Right when the platform still fits and the problem is cost or speed.
  • Rebuild the core workflows, $15,000 to $25,000, 6 to 8 weeks. The workflows that make money, rebuilt on your own stack with the data migrated. Right for a focused product with 1 or 2 main journeys.
  • Full product rebuild, $25,000 to $35,000, 8 to 10 weeks. Every live workflow, new admin tools, UX fixes from what users showed you, and AI features designed in.

Our rebuild prices are fixed, with full IP transfer. Optimization inside Bubble is scoped per app.

When you should not move yet

If Bubble still fits your cost, speed and buyer requirements, stay. A rebuild of a product that works and sells is a bet you should only make when the platform is the thing holding you back.

Frequently asked questions

No. Bubble does not export application logic as source code. You can export your data as CSV or through the Data API, but pages and workflows have to be rebuilt.

For a focused product, 6 to 10 weeks including data migration. The Bubble app keeps running during the rebuild, so users see 1 switch day, not months of downtime.

Passwords cannot be exported. Users set a new password through a secure link on first login, or sign in with email links. Plan the email and support load for that week.

With us, $15,000 to $25,000 to rebuild the core workflows or $25,000 to $35,000 for a full product rebuild, fixed price with full IP transfer.

Pick a mainstream stack your next hire already knows, such as React or Next.js with Postgres. The goal is ownership and control, not novelty.
